Michigan Versatile Hunting Dog Federation (MVHDF) was formed in 2009, by a small group of friends who train their hunting dogs together, We are hunters who take to the woods for grouse and woodcock as well as to South Dakota for pheasant. We have trained and tested many dogs in North American Versatile Hunting Dog(NAVHDA) tests, as well as NSTRA events.

We were introduced to the  VHDF through an article written by Chuck Johnson in Pointing Dog Journal. We called and spoke to Chuck and others with VHDF. We liked what we heard about the VHDFphilosophy of testing and evaluating  dogs, as well as the ten point scoring system. It reminded us of the European testing system.

We held a Hunting Aptitude Evaluation (HAE) test, which is for young dogs up to eighteen months old. Since VHDF is relativity new we didn't know what to expect. None of us had ever seen a VHDF test before but we were willing to take a chance. We were not disappointed. There were a total of eight pups that ran in our one day test. All of us were impressed with the VHDF judges and how much time they spent with each dog and handler. The judges take as much time as needed to give each dog a true evaluation of their abilities and they are not afraid to rerun part of the test if the dog was not given a fair opportunity to perform.

This year we have expanded a bit. We have acquired new event and testing grounds, we will offer five event days and a 3 day Evaluation Test which will test all three levels: HAE, Advanced Hunting Aptitude Evaluation (AHAE) and Performance Evaluation (PE) for the finished gun dog.

Take a look at our web-site. If you have any questions please contact us. We welcome you to come out to one of our event days or our Evaluation Test, to see what MVHDF is all about and what VHDF has to offer you and your dog.
